Profile
Construction began on the USS Constitution at the San Francisco Fleet Yards Riverside Iowa "skunk works" Annex in November 2249, under the direction of Admiral William M. Jefferies. In 2250, while the Constitution was under construction, work began on the second vessel of the class, the unnamed NX-1701. Both ships while of technically the same class would follow radically different paths at first.Construction was completed on the Constitution in 2254, and she began a series of shakedown cruises. Wanting to keep the ship at the forefront of starship technology Constitution docked back at Riverside in early 2257 to undergo a minor refit to specifications closer to the second prototype ship. Her weapons refitting is due to start testing of a new directed energy weapons system called a Phaser along with the second ship in 2258.
After, what seemed like hundreds, of shakedown cruises and test the Constitution was finally officially comissioned into the fleet under the command of Captain Keith F. Hale on May 8, 2258.
