History
The USS Enterprise was constructed at Riverside Shipyards, under its Plank Captain Christopher Pike and launched early in 2258. Captain Pike had long intended to use it as an opportunity to demonstrate the reforms he had long believed were needed in Starfleet, recruiting a new breed of officer into the service; one more adaptable and less bound by rules and regulations. It was in this vein that he sought to recruit James T. Kirk while the ship was under construction in 2255. When a distress call was received from Vulcan in 2258, the Enterprise was launched early. (See Battle of Vulcan.) After Captain Christopher Pike was taken hostage, James Kirk took temporary command and defeated the Narada as Nero readied the ship to destroy earth. For this, Kirk was promoted to commanding officer of the ship. With Captain Pike's vision for a new Starfleet vindicated, Christopher Pike was promoted to admiral and posted at Starfleet Command, where he would expand his reforms from one ship to an entire fleet.
